Our Story

I was born in Hanoi, Vietnam.

When I was 12 years old, I moved to Germany “for a better education,” as told by my father. At the time, it was very difficult for me to find friends in a new country with a totally different language and culture.

Most kids had already established great friendships at school. For me, integrating into the new culture was hard and it was even harder since I was moving from one school to another due to Germany’s system: elementary (Hauptschule ) - secondary ( Realschule ) – Highschool (Gymnasium ).

After trying all the sports (table tennis, basketball, football and volley ball), I finally found out about dancing when the school’s dance club was auditioning for new talents.

Before joining the club, I didn’t know ballroom dancing even existed. For my parents, dancing was considered to be a "luxury thing" for people who have money. I grew up in a very poor family; everyone would depend on the small amount of money that came from my parents selling food on the street.

 

My siblings and I had to wake up at 5AM everyday to help set the place where my mother sold soup for the whole day.  So it was almost impossible for me to convince them that dancing was a sport and that's what I like to do. It was a tough fight between my parents and me. After all, my advise to anyone who chases their dreams is to fight harder for it.

It’s understandable for parents to want their kids to have a better life than they did. Because of this idea, it's often time parents don’t realize their kids’ special talents and accept them to build a career out of these talents . I’m not saying anything bad about my parents, they are great… I love them… without them I wouldn’t have many opportunities in my whole life. 

I moved to Germany, learned German as a second language, and took European culture and lifestyle mixed with Asian/Vietnamese culture as a new inspiration to my life. I received so many opportunities to travel around the world through my dancing. It showed me how much you could learn from other people with different cultures and mentality. It also gave me the courage to begin a new life in America as an artist with new hope and new achievements.

Before I learned how to dance I was very shy. I was not able to participate in a crowd because I was very scared of people judging me for being different. However, dancing doesn’t judge who and how old you are. Dancing made me more confident as well as gave me a strong will and a discipline to conquer all problems in my life. Dancing encourages me to dream and pushes me work harder for what I believe in. Every day is a new challenge to make the right choice for your life. I can only say it for myself that DANCING has always been my best mentor. We all have problems in life… many people look to escape from it all, but I learned how to deal with it and to discover myself every day. We can only be happy and survive if we accept who we are and deal adversity. I believe in changing for the better and making other people around us more comfortable and happier with us.

I can't tell how far I can go with my dreams in the future, but one thing I can confirm now is: as long as you believe in yourself and in what you do, you will make it!!!

There are shorter and longer ways to achieve your dreams. Only if you are ready to go for your dreams, your dreams will be there to welcome you.
